About Riches for Teachers

This site was designed to give teachers the information they need to continue to be successful in their careers. As a fellow teacher, and someone who previously worked in the business world, I became increasingly concerned that we are not providing teachers with the support and skills needed to thrive in the profession.

Teachers receive a lot of training in curriculum and how to deliver it. What we need to provide more of for teachers is information on how to take care of ourselves physically, emotionally, and financially.

As new teachers we start out with so much enthusiasm and energy. Yet, I see after a few years the demands of the job cause many good teachers to leave the profession. People of course leave for varying reasons but often we hear those leaving because of the demands of the job, and yes sometimes the pay.

While teaching is a profession we have chosen and love, we need to learn more about how to balance all the demands. (I heard someone say recently that there really isn't any balance in teaching, we just have to learn how to become better at juggling all the tasks.) Each year the amount we have to teach, and the responsibilities, seem to grow.

My mission is to provide teachers with information on how they can increase their energy, reach their life goals, and make sound choices with their money so they can enjoy financial freedom. I consider all of these to be the "riches" in teaching. When we feel energized and focused as individuals we are then able to give our students our very best.

Our teacher pay is often a topic that is much discussed in the public. When I entered into the profession I was amazed by the strong opinions that friends and community members have about teacher salaries, and the perception of how much time we work for those salaries. We work hard for the money we make and I want to give teachers information on how to make good choices with their money.

I think we can work together to elevate the teaching profession so we are seen as knowledgeable professionals who put the success of our students first. I look forward to hearing ideas from visitors and growing this site with valuable information.

I have completed training with Jack Canfield, master success coach and author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, and The Success Principles. This training has enabled me to bring the secrets of success to others, especially teachers.

I currently teach middle school students how to be successful learners. My Master's Degree is in Clinical Psychology and I hold a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Education with a concentration in Curriculum.

Teaching is something I feel that I was called to do. I have worked with children for many years in different settings. I have also run a couple of businesses and worked for a multi-national corporation. The education community can learn much from the business community with regard to career and financial planning information that is provided to teachers.

I look forward to bringing this information to teachers through this website, and my seminars and presentations to teachers.
